Day 16 Nindigully Pub to St George 45 kms

Collis decided he would ride to St George today and the team made him lead them out of the pub. We had a bit of a photo session and I will post these once I get hold of them. It has been another pleasant riding day past cotton fields  and no cattle grids. A couple of riders from St George came out and rode in with our riders (they were called Peter & Lyle). Collis was leading the pelleton for a short period only before the gun riders couldn't stand the pace any more and took off without him. Some of his faithfuls stayed with him and he led them into St George around 11 am. The ride was enjoyed by all. Everyone was concerned we hadn't seen Danny all day as he took off around an hour and a half earlier than everyone else- Danny was the first into town and found himself a nice posy where he stayed until a reasonable hour when he decided to join us at the caravan park.

The Pelican Rest CP is a nice surprise (even though Collis & I have stayed here before). The camping area is lovely and green and spacious. It is on the main road and the police did do one circuit that I know of but it is still very nice. The bathrooms are very clean, they smell nice and they even have hand towels available to guests. The camp kitchen (where I am typing this) has all the facilities you need and a nice communal atmosphere.

Jacquei and her partner Annette drove in not long after we arrived  and they had driven 500 kms to join up and give us support for one night. It was lovely to catch up with her and she took a few of us out for an "All you can eat" at the local RSL which was another pleasant surprise ( food was pretty good for that sort of arrangement). Jacquei is joining us for the ride at Cairns (in 2 1/2 weeks) and she will be going through to Broome. Once again we were all in bed by 8.30 pm.

The locals (especially in the cabin behind where we had parked the truck) didn't respect our early bedtime but they did calm down after a while. It didn't disturb Collis who once again started snoring as soon as his head hit the pillow.

Quotes for today:
"Don't stop here, I'm exposing myself".

"You need to wear decent bras to do these rides."
